I have been here a little over a week, unpacking and arranging stuff on shelves. Getting to know the city. Los Angeles is a big place.

First impressions. This part of Los Angeles County is the most racially and culturally diverse area that I have ever lived in. I lived in Dorchester in Boston, and Manhattan in New York, this is more diverse. I was in the supermarket and there was no 'ethnic group' that constituted more than 10 per cent of the customers, and that is lumping all the European types in to one big ethnicity.

There is a lot of buses, light rail vehicles, rail commuter trains. But this place is full of cars. It will take a lot of public transportation to move Los Angeles.

The weather is wonderful. After the heat of Florida, the ninety degrees here is dry and something to arose rejoicing.

The last post was written from Florida, before I got fully involved in packing. I just set up my computer two days ago. I think I am settled enough to begin writing. Maybe not everyday. I have a minister's retreat coming up.

The end of May and the beginning of June found Marjorie in the hospital for major surgery
it has been a long summer recovering from that surgery and undergoing treatments at the Moffit Cancer Center. The treatments are finished, and Marjorie is doing very well, as you can see from this recent photo.

I am getting ready to move to Pasadena, and Marjorie will soon be moving to San Diego. Last Spring we were planning to move in July, so we will be a little behind that schedule, but at some points this summer it looked like it would be a long, long postponement.
